The biggest difference of the Izmir European Jazz Festival is that it is educational. Artists who come to the festival to give concerts convey their knowledge to young artists from Izmir through workshops and master classes. Two of the successful young people participating in the workshops attend the Siena Summer Jazz Master Classes in Italy with scholarships in cooperation with the Siena Jazz Foundation and İKSEV. To date, 21 young people have benefited from this opportunity. In addition, the official poster of the festival has been selected for the last 17 years with the Jazz Poster Competition, which has been organized for young designers and where talents from all over Turkey participate.

Abu Dhabi Festival brings the world to Abu Dhabi and takes Abu Dhabi to the world. This global symphony of cultures presents 100+ events in venues across the seven Emirates to an audience of 29,000 people.

The first awards presentation for distinguished achievements in the film industry granted by Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association - the precursor of today's Hollywood Foreign Press Association - took place in early 1944 with an informal ceremony at 20th Century Fox.
Other unique awards that have been discontinued over the years were the World Film Favorite, from 1951 to 1980 and the Newcomer Award, which had several different names during its lifespan from 1948 to 1983.
Today, the Golden Globes recognize achievements in 25 categories; 14 in motion pictures and 11 in television. January 5th, 2020 will mark the 77th Golden Globe Awards.

Giffoni International Film Festival is one of the most well-known children's film festivals in the world. It takes place in a small Italian town of Giffoni Valle Piana in Campania, Southern Italy, close to Salerno and Naples. Started in 1971 every year over 2,000 children attend the festival from several countries around the world. During the festival, children and teenagers watch the movies, learn about the filmmaking process, and are called to judge them and award the best ones with prizes.

The San Sebastián International Film Festival is an annual FIAPF A category film festival held in the Spanish city of Donostia-San Sebastián in September, in the Basque Country. Since its creation in 1953 it has established itself as one of the 14 "A" category competitive festivals accredited by the FIAPF, of which it has one of the lowest budgets. It has hosted several important events in the history of cinema, such as the international premieres of Vertigo, by Alfred Hitchcock (who attended the Festival) and the European premiere of Star Wars. It was the first festival attended by Roman Polanski and has helped advance the professional careers of filmmakers such as Francis Ford Coppola, Bong Joon-ho and Pedro Almodóvar.

As one of the oldest film festivals in Asia, the global reputation of the HKIFF was built on the pioneering work of programming Asian films and its retrospectives when Asian and Hong Kong cinema were not well known to the international community. Built on a solid reputation for programming, the HKIFF became the model for many subsequent film festivals around the region.

International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) offers a high quality line-up of carefully selected fiction and documentary feature films, short films and media art. The festival's focus is on recent work by talented new filmmakers. However, there is also room for retrospectives and themed programmes. IFFR actively supports new and adventurous filmmaking talent through its co-production market CineMart, its Hubert Bals Fund, Rotterdam Lab and other industry activities.

The BFI London Film Festival is an annual film festival founded in 1957 and held in the United Kingdom, running for two weeks in October with co-operation from the British Film Institute. It screens more than 300 films, documentaries, and shorts from approximately 50 countries.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was founded in 1927 and is the world's preeminent movie-related organization, comprising more than 9,000 accomplished individuals working in cinema.

Throughout its 74-year history, the Locarno Film Festival has occupied a unique position in the landscape of the major film festivals. Every August, for eleven days the Swiss-Italian town of Locarno, right in the heart of Europe, becomes the world capital of auteur cinema.

The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the largest publicly attended film festivals in the world, attracting over 480,000 people annually. Since its founding in 1976, TIFF's mission is "to transform the way people see the world through film".

The Berlin International Film Festival, usually called the Berlinale, is a film festival held annually in Berlin, Germany. Founded in West Berlin in 1951, the festival has been held every February since 1978 and is one of the "Big Three" alongside the Venice Film Festival in Italy and the Cannes Film Festival in France. It has the largest public attendance of any annual film festival.
The European Film Market (EFM), a film trade fair held simultaneously to the Berlinale, is a major industry meeting for the international film circuit.

The Sundance Film Festival is an annual film festival organized by the Sundance Institute. It is the largest independent film festival in the United States. It takes place each January in Utah, Salt Lake City, and acts as a showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers. The festival consists of competitive sections for American and international dramatic and documentary films, both feature films and short films, and a group of out-of-competition sections.

The Cannes Festival is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including documentaries, from all around the world. Founded in 1946, the invitation-only festival is held annually (usually in May). The festival was formally accredited by the FIAPF in 1951.
It is one of the "Big Three" major European film festivals, alongside the Venice Film Festival in Italy, the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, as well as one of the "Big Five" major international film festivals, which consists of the three major European film festivals, the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada, and the Sundance Film Festival in the United States.

The Venice Biennale has been for over 120 years one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Established in 1895, the Biennale has an attendance today of over 500,000 visitors at the Art Exhibition. The history of the La Biennale di Venezia dates back from 1895, when the first International Art Exhibition was organized. In the 1930s new festivals were born: Music, Cinema, and Theatre (the Venice Film Festival in 1932 was the first film festival in history). In 1980 the first International Architecture Exhibition took place, and in 1999 Dance made its debut at La Biennale.

The Moscow International Film Festival is the film festival first held in Moscow in 1935 and became regular in 1959. From its inception to 1959 it was held every second year in July, alternating with the Karlovy Vary festival. The festival has been held annually since 1999.

The SXSW Film Festival celebrates raw innovation and emerging talent from behind and in front of the camera. Featuring provocative dramas, documentaries, comedies, genre standouts and more, the festival is known for its high caliber and diverse program and its smart, enthusiastic audiences.

The Tribeca Film Festival is an annual film festival organized by Tribeca Productions. It takes place each spring in New York City, showcasing a diverse selection of film, episodic, talks, music, games, art, and immersive programming. Each year the festival hosts over 600 screenings with approximately 150,000 attendees and awards independent artists in 23 juried competitive categories.

The Telluride Film Festival (TFF) is a film festival held annually in Telluride, Colorado during Labor Day weekend (the first Monday in September).
